Why does it matter whose name is on the receipt?
The name on the receipt matters because most regulatory bodies (including the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario [CRPO]) require all financial documentation, such as invoices and receipts, to accurately reflect:
-
Who received the clinical service,
-
Who was present, and
-
The role the therapist was acting in during the session (name of the service).
This ensures transparency, ethical billing practices, and compliance with insurance and tax reporting requirements.
Most extended health insurance providers also follow these standards. If the name on the receipt does not match the person who actually received the service or if the service description is misleading, it may lead to denied claims or audits.
